ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra “Spotlight Series”: The Music of Ryan Cayabyab
Did you know research suggests that students who listen to classical music right before their test can score better on their math exams?
Music can also increase students’ confidence, improve language skills, and help them appreciate culture. There are indeed many reasons why being in touch with music is essential, especially for the youth.
The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is thus reaching out to the Filipino youth. The orchestra will produce a free concert for public school students from Grades 4-6 entitled “Musicoveries” to be held at the Aliw Theatre on February 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Public schools and NGOs who are interested in sending their kids to this enriching and entertaining show, please contact Karlo Cea at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 0915-6246808, 415-2272 loc. 2409.
Five thousand students of public schools from Grades 4-6 are invited to enjoy the audio-visual performances that will both educate and amuse them while showing the inner workings of an orchestra and the relevance of orchestral music today. The program includes an introduction to the orchestral instruments, a demonstration of how music can make the same film scene produce different emotions, how a story can be told with only melodies, and much more. This exposure to the beauty of live symphonic music will be a most unforgettable experience as the students will also be graced by guest performers from the Kapamilya roster.
Featuring symphonic suites and animated clips from The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Aladdin, Mary Poppins and Tarzan.
Renowned classical pianist Cecile Licad and The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, led by its music director Gerard Salonga, will come together to perform in a concert that must not be missed.
Dubbed “The Pianist's Pianist” after the name given to Cecile by well-known American magazine The New Yorker, the concert will be held on June 29 (Saturday), 8pm at the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
This will be the third time Licad and Salonga will be teaming up. Their previous concert earned rave reviews and was even recognized at the Aliw Awards as Best Concert Collaboration.
With Licad’s brilliant skills and the remarkable blend of talents in the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Salonga, it will surely be a musical treat.
Due to popular demand, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra will do a repeat of their concert that showcased the well-loved movie scores of legendary composer John Williams on February 23, 7:30 pm at the Meralco Theater.
“The Magic of John Williams: The 2013 Repeat” will feature memorable themes that were heard in movies such as “E.T.,” “Star Wars,” “Jaws,” and “Superman.” Williams has lifted hearts and moved audiences to tears with these masterpieces.
Other movie scores that will be included in the repertoire are themes from “Jurassic Park,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Harry Potter,” “Yes Giorgio,” plus the 1984 Olympics Anthem.
Karylle and Jose Mari Chan will also perform. The Philippine Outpost of the 501st Legion,an international organization of Star Wars fans who wear costumes from the movie, will also serve as an added attraction.
